The North Yorkshire Moors Railway runs through 18 miles of beautiful countryside between Pickering and Grosmont. It also runs services to Whitby - the most extensive regularly scheduled steam-hauled trains on the National Rail network.
An intensive service is run by staff and volunteers, using magnificent steam locomotives (and the occasional heritage diesel or multiple unit) to pull heavy trains over a steeply graded line, giving plenty of opportunities to see and hear the locomotives working hard. Stations range from sleepy backwaters to hives of activity, and there is always something to see and do in the short intervals between trains.
This is an unofficial website containing information about the line, trains and the area through which it runs. It is intended to complement the official website, not replace it, covering subjects of interest to visitors and enthusiasts in more detail than is possible for the official site.
